Aside from the grays in the hair and weakness in the bones, the most visible signs of aging in our senior loved ones show in the skin. Fortunately, while we may not be able to stop these effects over time, we, as family members, can help them slow these down. Just ask any of our personal care professionals at Al Amal Health Care Inc.
In line with this, we are listing tried-and-tested skincare tips we follow in our practice to help you take care of your senior loved one’s skin. Take a look at some of them below:
- Dehydration shows up in the skin. Consider hiring a personal care aide to monitor your senior loved one’s water intake and ensure they are getting enough water and liquids.
- Make sure your senior loved one uses only moisturizers formulated for dry skin to help ease the dryness and restore your senior loved one’s protective barrier.
- Only use gentle, sulfate-free, and fragrance-free cleansers or emollients. These will prevent your senior loved one’s skin from drying. If the air feels dry, turn on the dehumidifier.
- Make sure your senior loved one is applying sunscreen every day. Choose those with at least SPF 30 or higher especially when out and about. A home health aide in Ohio, or elsewhere, can help them stay consistent.
